749 million free game downloads and 2-fold increase in activity - Epic Games Store results for 2020
Epic Games studio has summed up the results of their work online game Epic Games Store store for 2020. The audience of the site has grown by one and a half times, and the number of active users in December almost doubled compared to December 2019.
Now 160 million accounts are registered on the site - a year earlier there were 108 million. The number of active users in December was 31.3 million people per day, with a peak value of 13 million online players simultaneously, which is almost double the number of 2019 (7 million). EGS has grown to 56 million monthly active audience, according to the studio's report.
This significant audience growth was a success thanks to a large-scale giveaway campaign, writes Verge. In 2020, 103 games were handed out for free in the store, and in total players downloaded 749 million copies. In addition, the fact that the super popular Fortnite battle royale is available on PC only through EGS played a role, the newspaper notes.
At the same time, revenue from game sales has also grown - users spent more than $ 700 million in the online store in a year, of which $ 265 million - on third-party games, the company said.
