CD Projekt Red pledges to reduce the number of dildos in Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red Studio promised to reduce the number of dildos, scattered in the game world Cyberpunk 2077. This was stated in a letter to a senior designer quests CDPR Philippe Weber Kotaku journalist Nathan Grayson.
Grayson writes in a column that he was surprised by the number of dildos in the game. Some of them appear in sex shops and nightclubs - and there their appearance is appropriate. However, at the same time, dildos were on the streets, in butcher shops, and among the garbage that was scattered almost everywhere.
During the first playthrough, the journalist began documenting all their appearances in Cyberpunk 2077 and counted 29 "encounters". Grayson noted that so many dildos distract from the game. According to him, the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is similar to modern reality, but their number in the game is disproportionately larger than in life, which raises questions from the players.
In addition, assembled dildos can be sold for a few Eurodollars or turned into parts to create other items, but they are never used for their intended purpose in the entire game, which is also strange given their number, writes Grayson. At the same time, the game has a dildo weapon, but it opens only after one of the quests and has nothing to do with the dildos scattered throughout the game world.
Philip Weber told Kotaku in an email that CDPR added dildos to the game to show the sexual liberation of Night City. According to him, what seems strange by today's standards or is considered taboo, by 2077 may become common and commonplace. At the same time, Weber admitted that the studio overdid it with their number - dildos as loot are generated in the game by chance, and by the time of release, the developers were still debugging the settings that regulate this.
Now the studio plans to change their number so that dildos do not seem too inappropriate and do not distract the player from passing, Weber argues. They won't completely disappear from the game, including melee weapons, but they probably won't stand out as much anymore, Grayson notes.
Players started complaining about the abundance of dildos in the Cyberpunk 2077 game world right after the release. According to them, there are too many dildos in the game, which speaks of weak storytelling - the studio could not find a better way to convey the liberation of Night City than just throwing dildos all over the place. At the same time, the game has the ability to have romantic relationships with only four characters, and there is only one guy and one girl for sex on the whole map. As noted by Reddit user KommisarPenduin, even in The Witcher 3 there were real brothels, while Cyberpunk 2077 is oversaturated with in-game sex ads, but nothing like that is there.
