Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV won't be out this year
Activision Blizzard, in an appeal to investors, said that Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV will not be released until at least 2022 and these games will not be included in the financial reports for the current year. Activision promises Blizzard will release new games in 2022.
The developers have never announced a release date for Overwatch 2, and about Diablo IV, programmers release diaries describing the creation process but have not yet announced completion.
Blizzard announced a sequel to the multiplayer shooter Overwatch and a new Diablo at BlizzCon in November 2019, but there has been no news of Overwatch 2 since then. According to the information shown at the exhibition, the press concluded that the company was not planning a full-fledged second part, but a large-scale content update: maps, new game modes, and redesigned abilities. The players expected changes soon, but they did not happen. The developers shifted their focus from supporting the classic Overwatch and updates began to be released noticeably less often at the end of 2019, and in 2020 the studio made almost no major changes in the game.
Activision has high hopes for a sequel to Overwatch as the company is losing players. The situation was aggravated by the hasty launch of Warcraft III: Reforged, which was released last January. The game came under criticism from users. On Metacritic Reforged received an opinion of players at 0.6 points.
In the fourth quarter, Activision will release a sequel to the Call of Duty series but did not say anything about the development of Warzone.
More details about Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV will be announced during BlizzCon, which will take place online this year on February 19.
